The work of Mark Reigelman. The first three images are from a work called Manifest Destiny! which is about occupying the frontier and available spaces. The fourth image is of the artist - in case you’ve ever worried about artists taking themselves too seriously (who hasn’t?). Via. The work of Mark Reigelman. Burial + Four Tet - Nova by .

Nova - a collab between Burial and Four Tet.

In 2003, a guy named Don Miller published a book called Blue Like Jazz. It went on to sell over a million copies (and spent more than forty weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers list), and became a handbook for ‘hipster Christianity’ (a slightly harsh term, but the easiest short-hand for now). Then it was going to be made into a movie, and then it wasn’t. Then some guys started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund it, and raised US$340,000. So the movie was made, and it’s being released soon, and this is the trailer.

An Ash Wednesday post today… today being the beginning of Lent. It also marks the first anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquake in which 185 people lost their lives.
The pictures above are of an art installation organised by Joyce and Pete Majendie on the site of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church. The piece is called ‘185 Chairs’.
And here also is a quote from TS Eliot’s poem Ash Wednesday:
I…Because these wings are no longer wings to flyBut merely vans to beat the airThe air which is now thoroughly small and drySmaller and dryer than the willTeach us to care and not to careTeach us to sit still.…
VI…Wavering between the profit and the lossIn this brief transit where the dreams crossThe dreamcrossed twilight between birth and dying(Bless me father) though I do not wish these thingsFrom the wide window towards the granite shoreThe white sails still fly seaward, seaward flyingUnbroken wings…  An Ash Wednesday post today… today being the beginning of Lent. The dreamcrossed twilight between birth and dying

From the wide window towards the granite shore
The white sails still fly seaward, seaward flying

Objectified, by Gary Hustwit.

Today, a couple of trailers from film-maker Gary Hustwit. In the last few weeks I’ve watched his documentaries Helvetica (trailer above) and Objectified (next post). Helvetica being a film about the impact of the ubiquitous font, and Objectified being about the design processes and implications of the objects we use everyday. I also just discovered that Hustwit directed the excellent documentary Moog about the eponymous synthesizer-creating genius. And he’s got a new one called Urbanized.
